Garlits is considered the godfather of drag racing, and the designer of the rear engine Top Fuel Dragster, an innovation inspired by an explosion at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach CA that tore his car in half and well as his right foot. A true American bad-ass. I saw him race when I was a kid at OCIR in Irvine of all places. At the time of this race poster, he had both feet presumably.
