The Fabulous Foothill Club in Signal Hill was part of a once great music scene in Long Beach California. Bonnie Price bought the venue in 1936, (some sources say it opened in "44) and it remained in the family until it's closing in 2000. The Foothill has a rich honkey-tonk history, hosting Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard and the Collins Kids. In "94, promoter Steve Zepeda of Bogart's began booking rockabilly, punk and alt-rock acts – the White Stripes, the Melvins, Frank Black & the Catholics, Reverend Horton Heat, & more. I Saw Fear there, Frank Black, many Double-O Soul shows, and a Man or Astroman gig were the singer wore a flaming television on his head, and the flames licked the very low ceiling.
It sold and became a Salsa club... eventually it was leveled for apartment buildings. Gone, but not forgotten (by me, at least – I could barely find any Foothill info online).
