The Showcase Theatre was a small theatre in an outdoor strip mall opened by United General Theatres chain on July 25, 1973. In 1993 an alternative rock club took over the building, leveling the floor. The small club held 450 people, and became the venue of choice for up and coming bands, eventually veering toward the Punk Rock scene. The Showcase was a great place to see your friend's younger brother's hardcore band. It became kind of a nuisance to the other merchants and got a lot of bad press, and was closed down by the city in 2008. The space appears to be still vacant in an aging strip mall whose big attraction is the 99c Store.
