Right on the other side of the fence, Iguana's was the loudest, most dangerous club, if my hazy memories serve me. Opened in "89, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, Sonic Youth, Bad Religion, Screaming Trees, Nine Inch Nails, and GWAR ( !?! imagine crossing the boarder doused in blood). John D'Agostino, writing for the Los Angeles Times in 1991, summed it up like so in this article on the place: Fifteen minutes from San Diego, yet light-years removed from parental supervision, Iguanas offers an ambience of almost-anything-goes, frontier neutrality that gives underagers an intoxicating whiff of freedom. I can second that - it's a small miracle that my friends and I made it home alive from our TJ trips.
